Gravel Road Stabilization Plan

The Stillwater County Road & Bridge department will be implementing a Gravel Road Stabilization Plan (Plan), beginning in the year 2025.The Plan entails completing an annual inspection of all County maintained gravel roadways for consideration on that year’s stabilization project list. Prioritized roadways will be estimated for overall costs for improvements, and the miles of project road reconstruction completed will depend on available funding for that year. Work on selected roadways will be scheduled for completion during summer months of July and August.

The 2025 Plan aims to complete twenty-four (24) miles of gravel roadway stabilization with the proposed projected roads as follows:

Brumfield Road - 4.83 milesCountryman Creek Road - 2.88 milesShane Ridge Road - 4.82 milesShane Creek Road - 8.21 milesPatterson Ranch Road - 1.26 milesMcNaley Road - 2.13 mils

Encroachment Permit Timeline

Gravel Road Etiquette

As we enter into warmer, dryer months, please note that traveling our gravel roads requires “Gravel Road Etiquette”

  • Turn your cruise control off
  • Buckle up
  • The slower you drive, the longer our gravel roads will last
  • Slower driving speeds prevent washboards
  • Be courteous and cautious with road dust. Faster driving speeds create more road dust, which creates dangerous driving conditions
  • Be kind to the Grader Operators as they are improving your roads
  • Keep a safe distance between you and the grader
  • Make sure the Grader Operators see you before you pass them
  • Let’s keep Stillwater County beautiful by not throwing garbage out of your vehicle and keeping cigarettes inside your ashtray
